Aquitaine Flag

Aquitaine flag. Aquitaine was a region of south-western France. Its capital was Bordeaux, the prefectures of the other departments were Pau, Périgueux, Mont-de-Marsan and Agen.

From 1 January 2016, following the reform of the French regions, it merged in the New Aquitaine region. It consisted of 5 departments: Dordogne (24, Dordogne), Gironde (33, Gironde), Landes (40), Lot and Garonne (47, Lot-et-Garonne) and Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64, Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Included in the 18 arrondissement region, 235 cantons and 2,296 municipalities.
